This is just a little about myself and my family. I am 79 years old!! and live in On the Northwest Coast of Lancashirein the U.K. I have only been here for 5 years, prior to this I lived in Bedfordshire for 6 years and prior to that I lived in Slough in Berkshire, (used to be Buckinghamshire), where I was born and lived until I married in 1954.
I worked for a number of years at 'MARS' the chocolate company - which is very welll known, and left when I was married, . I met a young soldier, Frank Aiken who was in the Royal Corps of Signals and whose parents had settled in Slough. Frank was on leave, not long after he had returned from Korea. His Father was in the Royal Engineers for many years. and been all through the First World War, and in 1921 was sent to India with his new wife, Dorothy, and they were there for 15 years. So I am interested in the History etc. of India/Parkistan. My husband was born in India, and his sister born in what is now Parkistan.
We were married at which is not only a very beautiful church and is also the setting for the poem 'Elergy in a Country Churchyard' by Thomas Gray.- St. Giles Church, Stoke Poges, Buckinghamshire.
After this event, we then moved many times, Yorkshire, Wiltshire, then a few of years in Germany, with our 2 children, then to Singapore for a few years, both places I enjoyed living in very much indeed. Then back to England and we settled in Dorset, and then after a few years, we all moved back to Slough again, mostly as there was more work etc.. for us all.
Then some years ago I found I was on my own so I moved to Dunstable to be near to my son and his wife and their 3 children and have now moved with them up to Lancashire.
I cannot say I have done anything really great in my life, we had two children, a daughter, Elizabeth born 1955 and a son Harry born 1958. We had a really good time whilst in the Army, and for a while we tried our hand at running a business for ourselves, but this was not successful so we left Dorset and returned to Slough where we were nearer to family and friends. I have always enjoyed reading, music and history and during the 1980's became interested in Family History. This has become my main interest these days, I have one sister Barbara, and this a shared love.
